1. Costway 23049-CYPE Portable Air Conditioner
Costway has been on the market for ten years with products ranging from home and garden to sports equipment to hardware and have quickly grown to one of the top retailers in North America and Europe.
This model weighs 46 pounds and is capable of cooling spaces up to 161 square feet.
What we like about the Costway is its no-drip design and use of auto-evaporation and water-full smart indicator, which you might find useful. It’s great because it’s not necessary to install a hose to let the water drain.
Another feature that we liked was the two-way, up and down air deflection that circulates the air, removing any hot spots allowing for plenty of air flow.
Equipped with caster wheels for easy-to-roll movement, digital LED display offering exact temperature modifications and a remote control enabling across-the-room access are all great features adding to its ease-of-use.
2. Black & Decker BPACT10WT Portable Air Conditioner
Black & Decker is a trusted brand that’s been on the market for years. It’s uncommon to encounter a product by them that’s not superior in quality and reliability. That description extends to this model too.
The BPACT10WT weighs 53 pounds and cools rooms up to 250 square feet. What’s great about this model is that it’s quiet while you sleep allowing your slumber to go uninterrupted without any noisy beeps.
It also features vertical motion for a more enhanced and efficient airflow that keeps your living space consistently cool with evenly distributed air.
You’re given the choice of three modes to select your ideal room temperature with a combination of fan, cooling and dehumidification.
It’s additional power allows for the cooling of larger living spaces because it can accommodate rooms up to 250 square feet. It also comes with a large drip tray that is very reliable due to its ability to evaporate on its own. The 24 hour timer used in sync with the digital control dashboard gives you complete control for setting your perfect temperature.
3. Della 048-GM-48382 Portable Air Conditioner
Della is another reputable company renowned for its hardware and appliance products. This weighs 74 pounds and cools spaces up to 350 square feet. Its greater capacity to cool larger spaces makes it ideal for studio apartments, large dorm rooms and home office areas.
This Della model is one of the more versatile units displayed with multiple settings that include cool, fan, dry, swing and sleep energy saver. What we liked in addition to the multi-mode capabilities is the auto-restart which saves your settings to use at a later time.
The unit automatically removes water and comes equipped with a high-efficiency air filter as well as viewing the temperature in both fahrenheit and celsius. The LED display on the panel and hand-held remote with battery included are other features that make this product worth taking a look at.
4. Ivation IVA PAC 10KBTU Portable Air Conditioner
Another model from the folks at Ivation, the IVA PAC 10KBTU weighs 64 pounds and cools spaces up to 400 square feet. This model offers a distinguished hose-style exhaust which lets more light in and avoids the clutter of other difficult-to-assemble window units.
One of the features that we liked on this one is the ‘Low Maintenance Upkeep.” The unit will beep eight times when the water reservoir needs to be emptied. When this occurs you have the option of either manually emptying the tray or you can redirect the water to a nearby drain with the hose provided. The air filter is easy to clean and is as simple as rinsing every two weeks. This reduces the need to purchase any additional parts and keeps the air flowing crisp.
If you’re looking for something a little more powerful this unit might be a great fit. Despite its greater cooling output it’s not as cumbersome as other larger units that lack a space-saving design. The easy-to-roll caster wheels lets you go from room to room and the LED display with handheld remote are added layers of convenience.
5. LG LP1015 WNR Portable Air Conditioner
The LG Portable Air Conditioner weighs 55 pounds and provides a cooling area up to 300 square feet. This unit has a sleek, slim design which makes it ideal to accommodate smaller living spaces.
The LG provides multiple fan speeds with auto cool, dehumidifier and fan only modes. One of the great things about this unit is while in dry mode (dehumidifier) it is capable of removing up to 2.6 pints of moisture per hour. This equates to less humidity in a room requiring no extra cooling.
The LG comes furnished with a programmable 24 hour on/off timer, easy-roll casters, two cooling fan speeds and two fan-only speeds. What’s great about those additional cooling fan and fan-only speeds is the extra layer of precision when adjusting your room temperature. You can tailor it to your exact specifications.
Its air filter is washable and easy to clean and comes with an easy to operate LED display panel. The auto restart is great because you won’t lose your settings when you shut off the power.
So, which 10000 BTU portable air conditioner do we think is great? Our money is on the Black & Decker Portable Air Conditioner. What we liked about this model was the vertical air flow. It seemed to cool the space more efficiently than models not offering that feature.
We liked the cooling space up to 250 square feet. This made the model not so small that you wouldn’t notice it in a studio apartment or large home office. And with a starting price of just above $280, it didn’t feel like we were paying too much for the unit.
It’s still fairly lightweight at 53 pounds but has a greater cooling capacity than models with similar weight. It’s not the least expensive model but the cost compared to its features exceeded our expectations.
It’s not as noisy as some other models and there are no loud beeps which we liked when wanting to run the cooler while sleeping.
It’s important to know what your needs are and find the model that best accommodates those needs. You may live in a space that will not be cooled efficiently with a 250 square feet capacity and may require something larger. A little research goes a long way in helping you select the model that’s right for you.
