Portable air conditioners are wonderful devices that allow us to experience cool and refreshing air anywhere we go. Their appeal comes from being able to be taken from room to room as well as being used to cool RV units, garages and other places where cool air is necessary in lieu of a hot, summer day.
For this review, we will look at no more than five of the best 14000 BTU portable air conditioners. These portable units are all 14000 BTU and come from companies like Black+Decker, SPT, Whynter, Della and Honeywell.

1. BLACK+DECKER BPACT14WT, Portable Air Conditioner
This unit from Black+Decker has a nice, white design. This unit also has a remote control, so that you can adjust the temperature and other features from several feet away. No having to get up or figure out a control panel that is more of a hassle than it is worth.
This Black+Decker unit can cool a room that is up to 350 square feet in length. This is about 16 or so feet long and wide, which is an adequate size.
Included with this unit is a 24-hour timer. This allows you to automatically set the temperature in the room at certain times a day. If you want to power the unit off when it’s evening, you can do so by making it turn off every day at six or seven o’clock.
This unit also has three different modes: cooling, fan and dehumidifier. If you need to dry something off or get a room to be less humid, there are settings you can use for these specific occasions.
The controls are fairly simple, too. The modes are indicated by shapes, and you can adjust the fan to run at three different speeds. There are LED lights that can help you adjust the room temperature and indicate which modes you have selected.
The one thing to consider is that installing this unit is not that easy to do. We would recommend to have a handyman help you, but resorting to hiring a professional for a portable unit doesn’t seem the direction to go in financially.
2. DELLA Portable Air Conditioner
Not to be confused with the computer manufacturer, Della has developed a modern looking portable air conditioner that is made for offices, kitchen, bedrooms and living rooms. This unit can cool rooms that are as big as 450 square feet, which is pretty spacious.
This unit also comes with a remote control, so you can set the temperature right from your bed, couch or desk. You can relax or work in sheer comfort. You can adjust the temperature from 62 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Della air conditioner also lets you work in three different modes: dehumidifier, cool and fan. This unit also has a 24-hour timer that allows you to turn it on and off automatically at fixed times of day.
The Della air conditioner also comes with a dust-removing filter. The air that comes into your room with always be clean and healthy, regardless of what living arrangements you have.
The one problem that we have experienced with this air conditioner is that the drain is located at the very bottom of the unit. If you are using an exhaust hose to direct the water, you will need to find a clever way to connect the hose to the unit and make it work.
3. Whynter ARC-14S Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner
Whynter has developed a very interesting looking air conditioner. We are not really sure about the design of this unit. It is black with a very thick steel trim. It looks too sharp and edgy for something that a lot of people would want to buy.
This unit can cool rooms that are up to 500 square feet, which is a very good threshold for size. You can confidently cool a room as big as an art classroom or a small local store.
Like the other portable air conditioners thus far, this one can cool, run a fan, and dehumidify. The fan can run at three different speeds, and the room temperature can be adjusted from 61 to 89 degrees Fahrenheit.
This air conditioner from Whynter also comes with a washable pre-filter and a carbon air filter, so that your cool air is always clean air.
This is a quiet air conditioner that can make noise as softly as 56 decibels. You can soundly fall asleep at night without any major humming that is coming from your portable air heater. Like the other units, this unit has a 24-hour time in which you can adjust temperatures automatically for any time of day.
The one takeaway from this air conditioner is that it is very heavy. This wouldn’t be a problem, had this air conditioner had any wheels, but it doesn’t. The other units do, and they are significantly lighter. Not having wheels for a 100-pound unit defeats the purpose of portability entirely.
4. Honeywell MM14CCSBB Portable Air Conditioner
This portable air conditioner from Honeywell comes in two color choices: Black, and black with a silver trim. They utilize these colors better than the Whynter version, in our opinion.
This portable air conditioner can cool a room up to 700 square feet. This is very impressive, and you can likely heat a while apartment suite or a few open rooms in your home easily. This is a very quiet air conditioner that you can sleep, work, or relax through easily.
This air conditioner has its own remote control, so you can adjust temperatures and modes right where you stand, sit or lay. You can adjust the temperature from 61 to 89 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Honeywell air conditioner has a 24-hour timer that allows you to turn the unit on and off instantly at certain times of day. Furthermore, it has a dehumidifier, a three-speed fan and cooling capabilities.
The one thing that we did not like about this unit is that it takes a really long time to get to the temperature that you need to. If it’s 100 degrees outside, and you want it make it feel like 70 in your room, it will take what feels like hours to get to 70 degrees if the air conditioner is off.
5. SPT WA-1420E Portable Air Conditioner
This last air conditioner is by SPT. It is a pretty white unit that looks simple and pleasing to the eyes.
The main feature of this air conditioner is its impressive energy efficient ratio. It is able to consume less energy than similar air conditioners on the market. It also uses non ozone depleting R410 refrigerant that is free of harmful chemicals.
This unit can cool a room that is up to 700 square feet in size. This is a decent size, albeit not the biggest. You can adjust the temperature from 68 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit, this is not a huge temperature range at all.
This air conditioner can cool, run a three-speed fan and dehumidify. You can set one of these modes with an easy to use control panel or with a remote control that is included.
The 24-hour programmable timer enables you to set times of heating and cooling automatically, so that you can turn the unit off and on at certain times of day without you needing to take any effort.
The portable air conditioner that we most recommend to you is the SPT WA-1420E Portable Air Conditioner.
The one big appeal to this air conditioner is the energy efficiency that comes with it. Air conditioners are not cheap to run all summer by any stretch of the imagination. This unit, however, hopes to rectify your energy bill problems by reducing the monthly expenses.
All air conditioners have the same core features, but this certain feature is what every air conditioning manufacturer must work on in order to get the attention of customers.
